Session 14 Recap

  • The party started the session at the top of the Dragon Cliff.
  • Kricetol, the Dragonborn Mystic, appeared and told the party that the first challenge was technically over as the eggs, which were not really dragon eggs, were taken to the top of the cliff.
  • A dragon shadow passed over the top of the cliff.
  • The party saw a mother wyvern in a nest who seemed a quite agitated that her eggs were on the cliff.
  • Two griffons circled, eyeing the eggs.
  • As the party determined how to get the eggs into the nest, they grew worried that something would come out of the cave, so Avari started to wall it up. At that point a huge Hydra broke through cave entrance.
  • After hard-fought battle, which included Kriick being dragged up into the air by a griffon, Kriick killed the griffon and started the fall. He did a backflip and managed to crash into the cliff face.
  • Luckily, he had tied a rope from himself to Argone and Argone was able to get him up on the top of the cliff.
  • The party then took down the Hydra and put the eggs back in the nest, to the delight of the Wyvern.
  • Kricetol returned and told the party that they had passed the first test of Dragon Integrity–they didn’t have to put the eggs back but did even though they were not dragon eggs–they had showed Integrity.
  • At this time, Kricetol announced that the party could take a long rest, which they did.
  • The time check was 12.5 hours of the 24 hours available for the trial.
  • Kricetol took the party to the edge of the cliff, and the smoke blew away.
  • The party saw a huge valley with lots of flags across the landscape.
  • Kricetol said that each party member would be introduced to a dragon that they would ride in the Dragon’s Calling Challenge.  The winner of the race would receive the Dragon’s Blessing and the losing players would receive the Dragon’s Curse.
  • Kriick was to ride “Blaze”, a female adult red dragon who complained that she had to get stuck with the rookie rider.
  • Sun Feng met “Loo”, an adult male blue dragon that said “he doesn’t like to lose”.
  • River met “Smoke”, an older adult copper male dragon. He told her that he might not be the fastest, but he was wise and that he would be able help her with the challenges.
  • Avari met a young male brass dragon named “Chatter” who was an eager to win. See Chatter’s story in the next post.
  • Finally, Argone met a huge bronze male dragon named “Sue” who said, “I don’t lose.”
  • The race involved lots of challenges, including a kraken attack, a purple worm grapple, a search for medicinal herbs, and a cave with arcana items, where Sen Fung played hero.
  • River did not race and instead explored the course, and found Rexx arriving on a black dragon!
  • River harried Rexx to keep him from interfering with Argone, and the race came down to Avari and Chatter, who led the most the race but started having trouble as Chatter started to run out of energy, and Argone and Sue, who struggled at the beginning but then got into their stride and made a mad rush to the end. Meanwhile Loo and Feng steadily headed towards the finish.
  • Chatter and Avari actually did make it to the finish and just as they were going to grab the flag during their successful strafing run, Avari instructed Chatter to pull up. It was enough to prove that they could have won, particularly since it was Chatter’s first time.  As Sue and Argone rushed right behind, they completed their strafing run and took the flag, just seconds before Loo and Feng started their strafing run.
  • Sue looked at Chatter and he flew by and gave him a look…. a “seeing”.
  • The session ended.
