Session 31 – Recap

  • The party continued into the sewers and discovered a Potion of Cloning on the body of a long-dead adventurer.
  • They pushed forward and found a room with dead bodies and trash floating in a putrid pool of water.
  • The water was also full of leeches, which the party quickly dispatched.
  • As they made their way through the nasty water, they found the body of Horace floating face-down in the water.  There were slashing wounds upon his body, but different from the demon claw attacks.

Horace was found dead in the sewers
  • Kiervasan also noticed that Horace had something clasped in his hand. He carefully pried Horace’s hand open and found a human heart.
  • The party remembered the weapons merchant who begged the party to help his son, who had had his heart ripped out by demons (according to a witness) but was somehow still alive.
Gelatinous Cube
Swarm of Bones said, “Get on.”
  • The party continued cautiously into the sewers, and Kriick spotted a Gelatinous Cube on the ceiling.
  • Kriick had to do a tumbling roll to avoid having it drop on him, but he alerted the cube and a Swarm of Bones in the next room to his presence.
  • Avari cast a spell that made the Swarm of Bones see many in the party, including Kriick, as undead.
  • The Swarm of Bones ordered Kriick to “Get On.”
  • When the Swarm of Bones got near Jon Marston, who it knew was not undead, it ordered him to “Get In” as it engulfed him.
  • Marston easily broke out, and the party was able to keep the creature at range and whittle it down until it was dead.
  • The party looted some treasure and a jar of supreme healing ointment in the form of strawberry jelly.  The jelly had expired, so if it is used, the recipient has disadvantage on DEX saves for 24-hours.

  • Kiervasan found Horace’s backpack, which contained an old cloak and two letters. The first letter was a hand-drawn birthday card from Molly, the waitress at the Market Inn where Horace worked. The birthday card read:
    • “Happy Birthday Horace! You are a my favorite and I hope you have a great birthday, Your friend Molly.”
  • The second letter was written by Horace to Molly. Scribbled in horrible hand-writing, it read:
    • “Lovely Molly, I am not good with words, but I feel special when we work our shifts together. I can’t tell you how I feel because I am scared, also I can’t speak really well– I write better. To be honest, I also don’t say anything because I am scared that you will be horrified that I care for you. But you need to know, my heart does funny things when I see you. I feel tinkly when I am around you. I think you are the nicest and gentlest person I have met. I love your compassion to help others, and your ready smile. I want to hug you but that would probably spill your drink tray, plus I know you really like the baker’s boy that brings fresh bread each day. So I watch silently with devotion, hoping that someday you will see me. I think I love you. Forever yours, Horace.”
  • The room with the bones also had passageways that led up to the cellars and crawl spaces of the building above the sewars.
  • The party continued quietly down the sewers, and Kriick snuck up on Beatrice in a room filled with dead bodies and lots of fresh blood on the floor.
  • Jon Marston rushed forward and laid into Beatrice.
  • Severely wounded, Beatrice was forced to retreat through a secret door.
  • As the door opened, Cherry, Oberlee, and Rorin came in to help Beatrice and slashed furiously at Kriick.
  • Jon Marston slashed at Cherry with Bride.
  • Cherry screamed that Beatrice was sick and needed the money! How dare they deprive her of help!
  • Marston was having none of the lip and together with the rest of the party, killed Cherry.
  • Kiervasan and Kriick attacked and seriously wounded Oberlee and Rorin.  Both turned and ran back through the door.
  • As they fled, Avari cast a fireball after them, killing Beatrice and hurting Rorin and Uberlee, who did escape into the city’s cellars. The fireball also set fire to several buildings at street level.
Beatrice, Ex-Thieves Guild leader
Cherry
  • At this time, a cloud of smoke appeared, and an image of the Bone King appeared.  He said to come meet him at his crypt, but when asked where he said, “I don’t know, I am dead.” But he did point down a tunnel.
  • Avari sealed up the secret passage with rocks, and the party took a long rest.
  • During the rest, Ash, the ranger from the Crimson Cloaks, staggered towards the Leomund’s Tiny Hut, severely wounded.  He begged the party for help, explaining that they had been attacked and that their cleric was unconscious.
  • The party vetted his story a bit, and then proceeded down the sewer passage that the Bone King had pointed. They found the rest of the Crimson Cloaks nearly dead.
  • The party helped the Crimson Cloaks back to the tent that had been set up inside the Tiny Hut.
  • The session ended.
